Rory McIlroy is an American golfer, who has been part of the Tour Championship nine times and the winner of the FedEx Cup championship twice. He recently appeared at a press conference held at East Lake during the seventh week of the FedEx Cup championship.

He revealed the name of his true hero, his true idol. It was none other than our very own Tiger Woods.

Today, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods are both big names. However, McIlroy never thought he could accomplish the same level of success as Woods. But his fair play is commendable. He worked hard and achieved immensely.
When the reporter asked him about his thoughts on him and Woods joining hands to save the PGA tour, he stated, “I said to him the other day, I remember the first golf shot I ever seen him hit live. It was the 5th hole at Mount Juliet whenever the Amex was there in 2002.”
“I drove down with my dad, and I watched him hit a drive off the fifth tee, and a long iron into the middle of the green, a par-5; Tiger was my idol ever since I watched him play the 1996 U.S. Amateur.”
Woods‘ skills mesmerized and inspired McIlroy. He believes it’s an honor to meet such a great athlete who has been his idol for many years.
McIlroy feels lucky to know Woods

The 33-year-old called himself lucky, as he had the opportunity to get to know Woods more intimately than others. He is very positive about the venture they started, to save the tour.
Woods has gratitude toward PGA. He realizes the PGA TOUR gave him a platform, an opportunity to become a brand. This tour made him what he is today.
