When Rory McIlroy saw Tiger Woods?
McIlroy is playing his second event of the 2022 season. Rory finished at tied 12th position last week at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, thanks to a late charge in the final round of the event. He looks to be in immaculate form and his ball-striking also looks good. Mcilroy is a 14-time winner on the DP World Tour and is also a four-time major championship winner. As a result, making him arguably one of the best golfers of all time.
Meeting your favorite player is a dream of each and every golfing fan but not all of them have the opportunity to achieve it. However, Rory McIlroy is among some of the fortunate ones.
In 2006, Dubai Desert Classic, Rory carded two rounds of even-par 72, missing the cut by just one shot. However, he wasn’t let down and got the opportunity to walk inside the ropes and see his favorite professional Tiger Woods.
Woods hit a miraculous on the par-five 10th hole, which is still fresh in Rory’s memory. Rory said, “Tiger hit a 5-iron out of the right rough that landed on the green and stopped,”. “It is one of the best golf shots I’ve ever seen. It still sticks in my mind, and I was right there for it.” McIlroy was 16 years old back then.
He added, ” I watched a lot of golf events as a teenager,”. “I went to Mount Juliet for a World Golf Championship. I went to the Open at Troon and I tried to learn something from them and get inspiration. If there are young kids running around this week and they can feel the same way or feel the same things as I did back then, then that’s a pretty cool feeling.”
