McIlroy had a great start to the 2022-23 PGA Tour season, after reclaiming the world number one sport with a CJ Cup win last month. He resumed his great form of the previous season, in which he had 10 top-10 finishes in 16 starts. Moreover, he had 3 wins to his name which -also included the final event of the season, the FedEx Cup.

Currently, the 33-year-old has set his mark on the finale of the European Tour, Race to Dubai. A win in Dubai will put him on the list of a unique record which was previously only achieved by Henrik Stenson.

What record will Rory McIlroy join?

McIlroy won the Tour Championship earlier this year, bagging home $18 million. However, a win at the DP World Tour Championship will put him on the list of the rarest golfers to have won both the FedEx Cup as well as the Race to Dubai in the same season.

The only player to have previously achieved this feat was Henrik Stenson, who claimed victory at the final events of both the PGA Tour and European Tour in the same season. He did back in 2013. However, no one has managed to match the Swedish golfer’s record yet.

Nonetheless, the odds of McIlroy getting a win in Dubai seems a little shy. He is currently tied for 4th position with 12 under par, meanwhile, Spaniard Jon Rahn who is at the top of the leaderboard has a score of 15 under par.

With only the final round left in DP World Tour Championship, McIlroy’s wish to join Stenson on the list seems a little difficult. However, the World Number one has proved previously to never underestimate his golfing abilities. With 18 holes more at stake, will McIlroy win the Race to Dubai?
