One of the season’s most awaited events, the Arnold Palmer Invitational kicks off today. A host of world-class golfers will take the stage this weekend, as highlighted by the number of top-rankers on the field. Among those will be past champion, Rory McIlroy, who recently lost his crown as the world’s top-ranked golfer. The 33-year-old will be looking to recapture his lost honors with a win at the tournament, where he quoted Tiger Woods for setting up a blueprint for victory.

McIlroy also mentioned how the course had witnessed changes over the years, which he revealed made it difficult to conquer. But the 33-year-old has enough experience at Bay Hill, having won the event in 2018. It was a special victory for him, with the victory culminating in an 18-month drought.

The former World No.1 lost his place at the top of the standings after the WM Phoenix Open, where he finished tied at 32nd. While he secured victory at the Dubai Desert Classic on the DP Tour, he’s yet to notch a victory on the PGA Tour this season.
McIlroy has been ranked World No.1 before. The Brit moved to the top of the standings for the first time after his Honda Classic victory back in 2012. He has been at the top of the helm in nine different circumstances, with more than 100 weeks combined.
