However, the major championships have made no decision. They are allowing the LIV golfers to compete in their events. But the prestigious biennial event, the Ryder Cup, has made no official decision. However, they removed Henrik Stenson as soon as he announced he would join the LIV Golf. So who will be Team Europe’s captain going into the 2023 Ryder Cup? And what will be Rory McIlroy’s role in it?
Who will lead Team Europe at the 2023 Ryder Cup?
Team Europe had Henrik Stenson as their captain for the 2023 Ryder Cup. However, he made a surprising decision to join the Saudi-backed league. Hence, he was removed from the captaincy, and the European side is now looking for a new skipper.
According to Telegraph Sports, Danish golfer Thomas Bjorn is a strong contender to lead the European team. Meanwhile, Thomas is the most successful golfer from Denmark. He has won 15 European Tour events in his career. The 45-year-old golfer has competed in the Ryder Cup thrice as a player.
Additionally, he was a deputy on the European side in 2004, 2010, 2012, and 2016. Henrik had already announced him as his first deputy for the 2023 Ryder Cup. But as they stripped Stenson of his captaincy, Thomas is now the front-runner to become the skipper.

Rory McIlroy will be assisting in the selection of the next Ryder Cup captain.
The European team star golfer, Rory McIlroy, will have a big say in choosing the next person in charge of Team Europe. Moreover, he is most probably leaning towards the experienced Thomas Bjorn. Meanwhile, apart from Thomas, they have options like Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald.

Furthermore, few people believe Rory himself could be the playing skipper for Team Europe. However, managing the strategies and concentrating on his game can be overwhelming. Hence, when the side has options like Thomas Bjorn and Luke Donald, it is not sensible to go with a playing captain.
