The recent CJ Cup winner, Rory McIlroy, has been in the headlines since his win. Everyone has appreciated his performance. However, it was not always the case, especially when Brooks Koepka shaded McIlroy in 2019. The Ireland golfer has been doing great in his golf career currently. He defended the PGA tour in collaboration with Tiger woods, and the duo has big plans for the tour.
Additionally, the recent CJ Cup winning has put McIlroy at the top, and now people see him as a threat to their favorite golfers. But Koepka never treated McIlroy as a threat; he never thought that the pro golfer would ever become a rival. And the evidence is his comments from a few years back. Why was Rory McIlroy not a threat?
In 2019, Koepka and his statements about the CJ cup winner, McIlroy, were making rounds. He shaded the top golfer by saying he was never a threat to him, as he never won any major. The question of rivalry does not exist in their case. In an interview with Daniel Hicks of the American Foreign Press, Koepka said, “Rory hasn’t won a major since I’ve been on the PGA Tour. So I don’t view it as a rivalry. “

The aforementioned was not the only time the duo commented on each other. Post the announcement of Koepka joining LIV in June, McIlroy called him “duplicitous.”
The LIV player did not pay much heed to it; he said everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Making the right decisions for himself and his family is his right, and he can think whatever he wants, added Koepka.
