The Rocket Mortgage Classic from the PGA Tour also has one interesting tradition. Last year, when Rickie Fowler tasted victory for the first time in more than four years, it was a dramatic win for him. Now returning to the Detroit Golf Club as defending champion, Fowler will find a tribute to him at the event.

After 1,610 days, Fowler won his sixth PGA Tour title by sinking an 11-yard birdie putt on the 18th hole to clinch the victory. Before defending his title this week, he was introduced to “Rick’s Pick,” an interesting sandwich named after him. Just like “Finau Fitu”, which was served last year, to celebrate Tony Finau’s 2022 victory. That being said, one might wonder if since it’s a tradition, the ‘Rick’s Pick’ will be available for free.

Unfortunately, this sandwich isn’t free at the Detroit Golf Club, so if someone is planning to taste it, it will be available on the menu with other dishes. Recently, @PGATOUR shared a post on X introducing the “Rick’s Pick” sandwich with the caption, “Eat like a champion.” The post detailed the sandwich’s ingredients: a brioche bun, Cajun turkey, shredded lettuce, pickles, pepperoncinis, mayonnaise, vinegar and oil, and oregano.

The “Rick’s Pick” sandwich was created by Chef Colin John of caterer Forte Belanger, with the help of the golfer’s wife. After introducing this dish to Fowler, John said, “So we worked with your wife, Allison, and your team to create what we call the Rick’s Pick,” as per Golf Digest, and further described its ingredients.

In response, Fowler said, “I appreciate it, this is one of my standard kind of go-to orders for lunch back home whether it’s at the course or a local sandwich shop. Hopefully fans here will be able to enjoy it a little bit.” While now there seems to be a special connection between Fowler and the tournament, there are other things that attach him to it as well.

What’s the connection between Rickie Fowler and Rocket Mortgage Classic?

It all started in 2015 when he became the official ambassador for the company. As part of this partnership, Fowler appeared in various marketing campaigns and promotional materials for Rocket Mortgage. It was all before he claimed his sixth PGA Tour title at the tournament. However, after winning, his connections were solidified further with the company.

In January this year, some reports suggested that Fowler might have ended his partnership with Rocket Mortgage when he was spotted without the Rocket Mortgage logo on his shirt. However, according to reports from Sports Business Journal, the golfer has renewed his sponsorship agreement with Rocket Mortgage after a recent pause of a few months. Additionally, Rickie Fowler wore the Rocket Mortgage logo on his shirt sleeve for the first time in 2024 during this year’s PGA Championship.
