Robert MacIntyre has been offered a spot on the Ryder Cup team, fulfilling his dream of competing in the event this year. He is making his debut as a representative of Europe at Rome’s Marco Simone Golf & Country Club. He will play alongside Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, and many more.

On the European points List, MacIntyre earned the third automatic qualification position. He improved his prospects of earning the final automatic qualification spot with his second-place result at the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open. That event was the third Rolex Series event of 2023 on the DP World Tour.

However, the days leading up to the confirmation of his spot were difficult for him. He discussed how the previous week was nothing short of misery for him on the Bunkered Podcast. “The last week was probably the worst week I’ve ever had, if I’m being honest with you,” said MacIntyre. “I was sitting in my hotel room all last week and not wanting to do anything. There was so much going on. It was just hell.”

MacIntyre was sure that he would not be a part of the European Ryder Cup team. I had it all written. ‘I’m not on the team; they’re going to pip me.’ It was difficult,” said the Scottish golfer. But with confirmation of his spot, how is his mental state moving forward?

MacIntyre’s relaxed state of mind post-Ryder Cup selection

MacIntyre is now in a pretty good space after achieving this immense feat. “I’m pretty chilled just now,” he said. He also said he doesn’t know what it will be like in Rome. But for him, it will be wonderful, despite being frightening.

“I can’t put into words what it’s going to feel like because I don’t know yet but I expect it’ll be all of the above: nerve-wracking, scary, brilliant. It’s going to be absolutely everything,” said DPWT Pro.
