The women in golf are reaching new heights in this generation thanks to the pointers of the earliest women in this game. Golf is known as a gentleman’s sport, however, there are many women who broke the social barrier of earlier times and carved their name into the history of a sport that was predominantly enjoyed by men.

On Saturday, we lost one such legendary player. LPGA legend Betsy Rawls, who was among the earliest female players on the LPGA Tour and had numerous accolades to her name, passed away at her home in Lewes, Delaware.

LPGA veteran Betsy Rawls passed away on 21st October at the age of 95. Her record on the Tour is amazing and she is a big inspiration for the current and the up-and-coming generation. Rawls joined LPGA in the second year of the Tour’s establishment in 1951 and won the Sacramento Women’s Invitational Open in that year. With 55 wins on the Tour, she is the sixth player in the league’s history with the most wins.

Rawls had added to her name eight major championship wins, which consisted of 4 US Women’s Open titles, two LPGA Championship titles, and two Western Women’s Open titles. Thanks to these accomplishments on the golf course, Rawles found a place in the prestigious Hall of Fame.

Even in her last years, her love for golf didn’t fade and in her conversation with another Hall of Famer, Kathy Whitworth, she talked about her new clubs and how much she enjoyed playing with them. The news of her death was shared by the LPGA.
