The Par-3 Contest wrapped up with Nicolás Echavarría taking the victory. While players soaked in the moment with their loved ones, one notable figure was missing—Rickie Fowler. Due to OWGR restrictions, Fowler didn’t qualify for the major, missing out on the opportunity. Now, it seems Fowler’s close friend, Jordan Spieth, is feeling his absence.
Just after the contest, Spieth talked about his experience at the Par 3 course and how fun it is to be out there with the family. He answered, “It’s full circle, right? I used to play it with myself, Justin, and Rickie, and we were doing hole-in-one bets.” He also hilariously mentioned his 3-year-old son, Sammy, and said, ” Now I’ve just got to make sure that Sammy doesn’t hit somebody. It’s a very, very different — very full circle. I used to see the kids out there, man, that seems too far away. Now I have two walking around with a third on the way.” Jordan Spieth is expecting his third child this July. He announced the joyful news earlier this year on the Smylie Kaufman show.
Last year, Rickie Fowler won this light-hearted Wednesday contest with his wife Allison as his caddie and young daughter Maya in tow, carding five-under-par 22. Following the win, the golfer was very delighted and said, “The Par-3 contest is something special. You know, the tradition of the Masters and being able to go out there, and now being able to spend it with my family.” He also explained the difference between having one’s family can make and further added, “Been around plenty of the little kids over the years, but a little different when we have our own out there.”

Fowler, Spieth, and Justin Thomas share an unbreakable bond. During the 2025 Cognizant Classic, this year, Spieth did not share accommodation with them, but he was ready to spend time with JT and Fowler and added, “Yeah, I do plan on going and seeing them and having a couple of dinners and hanging out. They’re not far away.”

However, their friendship isn’t limited to tournaments or dinner nights. But the trio also likes to go on trips whenever they can. Back in 2016, these three, with Smylie Kaufman, went to Baker’s Bay in the Bahamas to enjoy some time off the greens. Interestingly, they also got the title of ‘spring break group’ after that shared holiday. While Jordan Spieth was very vocal about his feelings, Fowler, too, speaks highly of their camaraderie.
What does Rickie Fowler have to say about their friendship?
Last month, Fowler joined Kay Adams’ Up and Adam Show and opened up about their bond. “We are always friends, and I think your friends are the ones you want to beat the most,” said the 36-year-old. While some may find it difficult to play against their friends, Rickie Fowler considers it a healthy challenge and said, “It’s fun when we do get paired together. It’s fun when your friends play well. But it’s even more fun when you beat your friends when they play well.”

When asked who he’d least want to lose to, Fowler answered without hesitation: “It’d probably be JT. JT chirps a little bit more.” Having been brothers on the greens for over a decade and sharing these moments together, it certainly makes sense why Jordan Spieth felt the absence of his friend. He might carry that feeling with him for the rest of the tournament.
