One might not see Rickie Fowler in the FedExCup playoffs, which are just two weeks away. In the 2024 season, the 35-year-old has faced back-to-back failures; the most recent one was at the Open Championship. Fowler was among those who struggled to conquer Royal Troon, finishing T71. This marked his 20th start without a victory.

The 35-year-old surely wanted to finish better; however, his form has seen a constant decline in the 2024 season. This trend could impact Fowler’s career trajectory in the 2025 season, which is surprising given his status as a six-time PGA Tour winner.

Rickie Fowler has failed to secure the top spot in any of the major championships in the 2024 season. He was T30 and T63 at the Masters and the PGA Championship, respectively. Moreover, he missed the cut at the 124th US Open. On the other hand, in regular events, the 6-time PGA Tour winner’s performance was rather disappointing. In the 20 events he played, he has yet to break the top 10 and has only two top 25s.

Seemingly, this has destroyed the chances of Fowler participating in any majors or the signature events next year, the Rickie Fowler Tracker reported on X. He will have to depend on sponsor’s exemptions in 2025 to be part of all the elevated events. During the current season, the 30-year-old will probably miss the last elevated events in the FedExCup Playoffs. As the first event of the playoffs, the St. Jude Championship, only the top 70 will be eligible to play.

Given his performance up until the Opens, Fowler has positioned himself 100th on the FedExCup Standings. The only chance the 6-time PGA Tour winner has to play in the FedExCup playoff will be through the Wyndham Championship. However, he might miss that too, as he has baby #2 due in the coming days. But even if he participated in the Wyndham Championship, he would’ve had to finish in the top 2 or 3 to enter the top 70 on the FedExCup Standings and secure his berth at the first playoff event.

Notably, Fowler might miss the entire official events in the 2024 season and only return once the following season starts. His team has yet to confirm any of the events Fowler might play in the FedExCup Fall. He might be seen playing in October, but that cannot be confirmed. Whenever Fowler returned to the greens, he would have to make sure that his form was back and the issues were sorted. But what has been affecting Fowler’s game?

Rickie Fowler reveals the reason behind his ‘terrible’ season

At the US Open, Rickie Fowler accepted that he couldn’t justify his dropping form and said, “I’ve basically played terrible this year; pretty simple and easy way to sum it up.” But the reason for it was revealed at his title defense at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The 6-time PGA Tour winner shared with Golf Channel that he has been facing a ‘yip’ in his right hand, which makes him twitch at the crucial moment.

This in turn affects his putting and causes the pro to finish bottommost on the leaderboard. Fowler expressed that he relied more on putting in 2023 and has tried to get back to it in the current season, but it hasn’t been the case. That’s why things have been falling apart for the 35-year-old pro.

However, Fowler isn’t disappointed in himself and has taken it as just another hurdle that he will soon cross. A few years ago, the 6-time PGA Tour winner suffered from a winless streak but got himself back and started winning on the PGA Tour again. After facing the failures, Fowler is prepared to break the winless cycle and, as always, come out as a better golfer.
