From 111th-ranked player on OWGR to the 23rd in the world, Rickie Fowler went through an arduous journey to find his ground again as one of the best golfers in 2023. However, as the 2024 season started, Fowler could not replicate his previous year’s mojo on the green. Fowler, who recently bid farewell to his 11-year association with Farmers Insurance, struggled to keep his position on the OWGR and also on the FedExCup Standings during the American Express.

Last year the 30-year-old ended his three-year winless drought as he won the Rocket Mortgage Classic and claimed the sixth title of his career. But this year he is yet to find his best form. While new faces like Nick Dunlap jumped an incredible 4000 steps on the OWGR to be 68th ranked, the California native has seen a steep decline in his rank.

At the American Express, Fowler experienced one of the worst rounds of his life. On day three, he made one birdie, three bogeys, and one double bogey. As the stakes were high, Fowler missed the cut. The two subpar performances of the Californian golfer affected his OWGR rank and the FedExCup rankings immensely, as the Rickie Fowler Tracker reported on X.

Fowler started 2024 with the 25th rank on OWGR and reached the 26th last week. However, now he has plummeted to the number 27 spot, one down from the past week, courtesy of the last two finishes. Similarly, on the FedExCup Standings, he was 86th, but as per the latest list, he is 26 places down to 110.

The six-time PGA Tour winner started his 2024 season with the first signature event on the calendar at the Kapalua Plantation Course. But his performance at the Hawaiian greens did not yield the best of results, as he ended up near the bottom of the leaderboard at 56.

This is in stark contrast to the amateur Nick Dunlap. Dunlap was ranked 4,121st in the Official World Golf Ranking at the end of 2023 and further slipped to 4,129 last week before he pulled an astonishing win at the American Express. He became the first amateur to win a PGA Tour in 33 years. This led to his rank skyrocketing to No. 68 in the latest OWGR.

With Fowler’s rank reflecting a downfall, the world number 27th would attempt to make his next appearance count for his career. But when it comes to things abruptly changing, one more heartache awaited Fowler in the 2024 season.
