Well, it seems though it is safe to say that Golf is a very unpredictable sport and you never know what’s going to happen next. The year 2025 has been a good example of that, TGL for starters, which is by far the biggest and unpredictable thing that golf has seen but we’re not here to talk about that today. Today, we’re talking about LIV Golf and its amazing strategies to lure in people, from players to analysts and now even YouTubers, and just when you think things could not get any more interesting, they have.

In a video on YouTube, Rick Shiels said “You ready?” and teased something big. He has nearly three million subscribers wondering what’s next. Shiels has been building anticipation with two trailer videos, one titled “The new era is here” and the other “The next chapter…” But why are we talking about Shiels? Well, per the latest tweet by NUCLR Golf on X, the page announced something new, exciting, and well, interesting.

“NEW: @flushingitgolf reports that YouTube Megastar Rick Shiels has signed a deal with LIV Golf to create content. Details are set to be revealed tomorrow, Shiels teased”, read the tweet. Yes, you read that right. And if you know a thing or two about golf you already know what makes this partnership particularly noteworthy is that Shiels has openly bashed LIV Golf many times in the past. Multiple times!

 

Now, the tables have turned and it seems, so have Shiels’s thoughts on LIV Golf. So let’s see what the fans are saying.

Golf fans are bashing Rick Shiels big-time

Starting strong with what one fan said, “Dude has said on his podcast that he didnt find LIV entertaining since its inception. Taking the bag changes that i guess”, while the other said, “Sell out 😂.” Well, money could be a big factor in Shiels’s change of heart towards the Saudi-backed league. We mean, just take a look at the money Rahm and DeChambeau were offered – Jon Rahm’s LIV contract is reportedly worth upwards of $300 million, while Bryson DeChambeau secured a lucrative deal worth $125 million. And while Shiels may not get the same numbers, LIV is pretty notorious for their lucrative paychecks, which could be a significant draw for the popular golf YouTuber.

The hate did not stop there as one fan said, “Gone down in my estimation. Hated LIV and always trash talked it”, while the other said, “Whoa! That’s wild! Like a whole new branding change for @RickShielsPGA” This change is surprising because Rick Shiels is closely tied to the PGA. He is certified by the PGA of America to train golfers.

Another fan wrote, “@RickShielsPGA if this rumor is true going to need to see what amount cause you to sell your soul and U-Turn on LIV.”  And the comment seems fitting considering the amount of times Shiels has thrown shade on LIV Golf. One of those instances was when Shiels threw some harsh criticism at LIV Golf’s commentary team. He called their performance “terrible” and “fake” on his Rick Shiels Golf Show. Shiels admitted that the commentators are professionals, but he felt that they didn’t sound natural and genuine. He thought that they were trying too hard to be exciting, and it came across as insincere.
