When the top-ranked male golfer in the world praises your greens, it demonstrates the club’s dedication to offering first-rate playing conditions. La Quinta Country Club has a longstanding reputation for being gorgeous, difficult, and well-maintained. The club now hopes to exceed expectations and provide an even better golfing experience for its members and guests with this restoration project.

“They may be some of the best surfaces I’ve ever seen,” Scottie Scheffler stated of the greens at La Quinta Country Club, one of the three courses used in the American Express PGA Tour event, in January of last year. “They’re really, really good. That’s consistent. It’s been like that — I think this is my fourth time here at this event — and they have been like that every time I’ve been over there. It’s pretty amazing what that superintendent and the club can do with those greens.”

Unbeknownst to Scheffler and his fellow golfers at The American Express in January of last year, La Quinta Country Club’s back nine greens had undergone a summer 2022 refurbishment, including the installation of new grass.

As they replace the tifdwarf Bermuda grass on the front nine greens with a comparable kind this summer, superintendent Tim Putnam is optimistic that they will achieve similar results. This will guarantee that the course remains in excellent condition and continues to earn favorable reviews from tour players. Putnam’s experience at La Quinta Country Club, which spans over 21 years, ensures the success of this greens renovation.

This summer, La Quinta Country Club is putting its immaculate greens through a thorough process that includes the use of pesticides to completely remove any remaining grass from the putting surfaces.

The next phase, according to Superintendent Tim Putnam, entails aeration and the application of a granular fumigant to get ready for the new grass. Players at The American Express won’t detect any differences when the existing tifdwarf variant, in use since the 1999 remodeling, is changed. The late spring, summer, and autumn are when the changes will start to show.

In addition, 90 new trees of various types, including eucalyptus and Chinese elm, will replace 135 older trees, mostly single date palms, that are being removed owing to age-related dangers. La Quinta Country Club is dedicated to maintaining its reputation for excellent greens despite the fact that the PGA Tour does not have approval rights.
