Michelle Wie West wishes the Presidents Cup to be a “mixed team event”

Michelle Wie West played on the LPGA Tour for a decade. The golfer has now turned entrepreneur but has not left golf altogether. Recently, she appeared on the Sports Pro podcast. The legendary icon was discussing her various views on the golf scene and how the LPGA Tour can be improved to get much appreciation.
Michelle was asked about any changes she would like in the Solheim Cup so that the international talent could participate. From her answer, it seemed it was not the Solheim Cup that needed changes but the Presidents Cup.
The Presidents Cup has an international team with golfers from different tours against Team US. Michelle said, “What I would really love to see is for the Presidents Cup to become a mixed team event.” Furthermore, she stressed that “our international talent is super strong on our team. I think it’d be really fun to watch.”
Whether the golf world is ready for a mixed event can be guessed from the backlash Lexi Thompson faced after her inclusion in the Shriners Children’s Open. The fans and golfers felt that Lexi had stolen a spot from a well-deserved golfer.

Lexi became the 7th woman in LPGA history to join the PGA Tour. She played on sponsor’s exemption and was close to making the cut. However, before she impressed people with her skills, there were a few negative comments.
Peter Malnati, in a press conference called Lexi’s invitation as a “gimmick” by the organizers to “drum up interest”. Soon after, he corrected the statement, but the damage was done. Golf fans too took to social media and expressed their disagreement. They blamed Lexi for taking a slot from a better golfer.
