Is Charley Hull's recent win a fluke, or the start of a new era in her career?

Charley Hull has had a wayward time on the course in the past couple of years. She has consistently performed well throughout this period. What was even worse was that she also had quite a few runner-up finishes during this time. But Hull still couldn’t relish the sweet taste of glory. But looks like things have changed for the better now.

Charley Hull was tied with Xiyu Lin on -11 heading into the final round of the 2022 Volunteers of America Classic. It was the afternoon of October 2, 2022, on the Old American Golf Course, Texas, when Hull managed to hit a score of 7-under par 71 to steal the LPGA title away from Lin. She raised the second LPGA trophy of her career, with fans from around the world applauding her. Many must have thought back then that this was the turning point in her career as she would start winning a lot more tournaments now. But that was not the case. She went on to go on a 2-year drought with many second-place finishes. However, more on the win later, we promise.

Though getting off from the high of such awaited triumph may be hard, the 28-year-old means business. As per the short video posted by Kate Davey on her Instagram stories, this hardworking golfer is back to the grind. The video showed her running on the treadmill, and the text on the same read, “The champ is home and is back to work! It’s so impressive how hard @charley.hull trains and practices.” And that is something every one of her fans would agree with.

She continues to hustle to move on to her next goal, i.e., LPGA glory. There are only three tournaments left in this season of the LPGA. Charley Hull is not a part of the entry list at the Lotte Championship in Hawaii. But she will be playing The Annika Driven by Gainbridge at Pelican in Florida. The tournament is scheduled for November 14-17 and will also feature Lydia Ko and Nelly Korda. The 26-year-old also has something to prove in Florida as she herself is coming back to the LPGA Tour after a minor injury.

As mentioned previously, Hull had to sit through multiple second-place finishes. But that changed a few hours ago as she joined a Ladies European Tour event.

Charley Hull stepped onto the Riyadh Golf Club with only one goal in mind: Glory. As part of the Aramco Team Series in LET, the world no. 15 was up against 83 other fierce competitors who had their eyes set on the prize. But it seems that no one could compete with the English pro this time around as she absolutely dominated the tournament.

At the end of it all, she had played 3 strokes fewer than her closest competitor from Denmark, Nicole Broch Estrup. Her average score across the three rounds was 66, and she was at the top of the world. All this happened about 24 hours ago, on November 2, 2024. That is exactly 25 months after her last pro win in the LPGA in 2022.

After soaking in the glory, Hull remarked, “I’ve been knocking on the door quite a lot over the past couple years and this week it all came together. I feel good. I’m going to get a hot chocolate [to celebrate], that’s about as exciting as it gets for me! It feels really good to win again…Especially here in Saudi…It’s just great to be here and get that win. I felt really sharp and played really solid out there.”

Now, Charley Hull has a lot of tough competition to face at The Annika Drive. Do you think she will be able to win against Ko or Korda? Share your views in the comments section.
