The golf world is mourning right now. 3X US Women’s Open Champion Susie Maxwell Berning died on October 2 at 83. She was so exceptional in the sport that she not only got inducted into the Hall of Fame but was also one of the six players to defend her title at the Women’s Major for two consecutive years.
Additionally, Berning grabbed eleven LPGA Tour victories in almost three decades of her professional career. “Susie was a true trailblazer from the moment she picked up a golf club,” said USGA CEO Mike Whan. The official USGA X account made the announcement. They took to their wall and shared a black-and-white picture of the late golfer with the US Women’s Open trophy. They captioned it, “All of us at the USGA are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of three-time U.S. Women’s Open champion Susie Maxwell Berning, one of the game’s true trailblazers.”
