The trend of knowing the golfers and the inside of the league has been on the rise. We have seen great examples of golfer turning into part-time influencers, showcasing their personal life. Be it Bryson DeChambeau, the winner of the 2024 US Open, or Kai Trump, the junior golfer who is yet to step in as a professional. Both the golfers have seen a steep interest of fans on social media, with over a million subscribers on YouTube. Now considering the great upside trend, even Netflix and the PGA Tour have utilised the opportunity to create a docu-series, Full Swing.

The series was widely received with applause from the fans and has been constantly offering new seasons. But despite the three seasons of the series, some top names were missed. Evidently, it was the golfers from LIV Golf. However, looking at the positive side of creating a docu-series, LIV Golf has also stepped into the market and shared the first season of “LIV To Win,” an all-access series premiering on FS1. Well, the aim was to increase the reach by showcasing the inside activity of the league, from planning and execution to how the league has become the biggest competitor of the PGA Tour.

If we look at the numbers, in the first season of the Full Swing series, 63% of the viewers tuned in to the PGA Tour coverage. But despite the attempt and success of the series. One Golf Channel reporter has been on the opposite side of it. Recently, Lav and Rex Hoggard on the NBC Golf podcast discussed the docu-series. Speaking on it, Rex Hoggard said, “I don’t have any interest anymore in these docu-series, and I would put Full Swing Netflix, which you did, under the exact same microscope because it seems to me Netflix and Full Swing have to go through a similar filter on the PGA Tour.” The series observed restriction from the league. Even notably, the news that took the headlines was the restriction of cameras during the Ryder Cup.

Similarly, talking about the LIV series, he spoke of having similar storylines. Hoggard said, “This is the exact same thing, this is going to be essentially a LIV produce docu-series and you’re only going to see that side of it. I have no interest, as you point, at my advanced age of listening to these sorts of homogenized pre-filtered that this is our version of the story.” The trailer for “LIV To Win” showcased players talking about how they saw a backlash for their decision and the story that goes around it. This is something that will cater to audiences who would want to know about the league’s struggle. However, for the journalist, that wasn’t the case.

Further sharing when Hoggard pointed out how the league hasn’t showcased the complete picture with the Full Swing series. Lav also joined in agreeing, saying, It’s sanitized.” The league has always been under the radar for its restriction on influencers as earlier, and there have been many talks where influencers have restrictions for covering the events. Even with the series, the restrictions were clear as it only showcased the side of PGA Tour golfers in the third season and no LIV golfers.
