Tom Kim has found himself in hot water once again. In August, the 22-year-old missed a chance for a birdie at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and in anger, he made a dent on the 12th green at the place which withheld his birdie chances. Apparently, he walked out without repairing the dent, and his caddie, Paul Tesori, had to cover up the dent. The golf fans on X were angry then and they are enraged again.
This time, Kim had traveled to the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, South Korea for the 2024 Genesis Invitational co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the KPGA Tour. Kim was inches closer to his first victory of the year but he missed a birdie on the 18th hole and entered into the playoff against countrymen An Byeong Hun. Hun made a birdie whereas the 22-year-old settled with a bogey and his frustration reached the ceiling.
The Yonhap News Agency reported that after the defeat, Kim went into the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club and broke his locker’s door, a photo shared by Flushing It Golf on X, shows the door unhinged. Right after, Kim apologized but the KPGA Tour is reportedly looking to open “a disciplinary proceeding against him.”

The golf world makes fun of Tom Kim’s enraged acts
Tom Kim made his professional debut in May 2018, and since then, the 2024 season has been the only year where the 22-year-old has gone winless. On the PGA Tour, he came close to winning one event, the Travelers Championship, but lost it against Scottie Scheffler. Indeed, the second loss was more disheartening. The reaction after it made this fan weirded out by Kim’s action after the $680,000 loss, taking a jab at the pro, they said, “Loser mentality, he is what he is. A loser.” While another user joked about the South Korean pro’s situation being similar to that of the door. They commented, “He’s become as unhinged as that door!”

While most were commenting or joking about the situation, a few wanted Kim to pay the fine. This user was angry at Kim’s indecent act and they asked for a serious punishment. Even previously, at the St. Jude Championship, Kim didn’t face any consequences. Thus, they wanted that this time, it has to be a hard one. They said, “What a d**k head, the tour needs to give him a suspension.” Another shared a similar feeling but asked for a different and easier one. They added, “Make him clean up the locker room at the end of the round next tournament.”

If the KPGA Tour does open a case against Kim, he will have to pay some fines or even suspension. And this fan totally agrees with it, saying, “Unfortunately his shown some personality! The tour is better for that! Let’s not be to woke! Pay for it to get fixed! It’s gone then!” Even at the 2024 Presidents Cup, Kim was brutally criticized for his behavior. Notably, while playing against Scottie Scheffler at the eighth green and making his putt, Kim and Sungjae Im walked off to the 9th tee. It was deemed disrespectful.
It seems that in the 2024 season, criticism has not left Kim’s side, and neither has his frustration issues. Nonetheless, he has apologized for many things, including the door mishap. Surely, he would learn from this experience.
