The Regions Tradition is a men’s senior professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour Champions. First held as “The Tradition” in 1989, the competition. Since then, it has been hosted every year with the exception of 2020, when it was postponed because to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s event is set to take place from May 11–14. Additionally, the event will return for a 33rd time in 2023. The event will take place at the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama. With the tournament commencing today, let us have a look at the prize pool and its allocation.

The season’s tenth event is the 2023 Regions Tradition. There is no cut, and 78 players will compete on the Alabama host course. The event’s lineup will feature the likes of Padraig Harrington, Steve Stricker, Bernhard Langer, David Toms, and other greats participating this week. The largest query is, though, for what the players will compete for.

According to GNN, the 2023 Regions Tradition will feature a total of $2.5 million as the overall prize pool. Moreover, it will have a winner’s share of $375,000. The whole prize money is distributed in accordance with the standard 15 percent payout in the PGA Tour Champions’ prize money distribution rulebook. Moreover, apart from the money there are important points and benefits on the line. The money earned at the event will count towards the Charles Schwab Cup points list. At the end of the 2023 season, the top five players are going to be paid a part of the $2.1 million bonus pool, based on the points standings.

Overview of the Regions Tradition

The Regions Tradition one of the biggest events on the PGA Tour Champions, is one of the five major championships on the tour. Furthermore, the tournament is mostly held in the month of May and is played over four days at the Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama. The course was designed by Bob Cupp and has been the host of the 34-year-old competition since 2016.

The tournament features a total field of 78 players. The lineup consists of the top 72 players from the previous year’s tournament leaderboard, the four previous winners of major championships, and two sponsor exemptions. Over the years, some of the biggest names in golf world have won the Regions Tradition. Some of the big names in the list include Jack Nicklaus, Tom Lehman, Lee Trevino, Bernhard Langer and others. The defending champion of the tournament is Steve Stricker, who won his first in 2019. Moreover, Stricker also finished as the tied 1st at the 2021 Regions Tradition.
