Does Bryson DeChambeau deserve all this love and sympathy after his Open exit?

Who had their money on Bryson DeChambeau for golf’s oldest major? Especially after the sensational major run he has had this year, it was only right! But as they say, good things do come to an end, and it happened with DeChambeau as well at the Royal Troon. At the 2024 Open Championship, the LIV star sadly missed the cut after carding 9 over in two days and missing the cut by 3 strokes.

After his sensational win at the US Open only a month ago, and T6 and T2 finish at the Masters and the PGA Championship, one could even say that DeChambeau now had a worse heartbreak than Rory McIlroy, who also missed the cut. Although the LIV golfer was not able to perform well this time around, he did not lose hope. And to some extent, he can credit his fans’ support for that.

Thus, as soon as DeChambeau got some time, he dedicated a post for his fans on his X handle. The golfer wrote, Thanks for all the amazing support this week at The Open. Wasn’t the outcome I was looking for but we’ll be back stronger next time. Love you guys.”

The ‘outcome’ was already in the minds of his fans ever since his first round. It was a shocking 5-over 76! Yes, it is not fiction but a reality that played out on the Royal Troon by the end of this Thursday. Not one birdie, but as many as four bogeys and one double bogey, tarnished his scoreboard. With such a setback, the golfer was not able to make a comeback even on Day 2. By the end, he finished with a 9-over.

This got the golfer much backlash from the golf community. People went ahead and even tagged him as “Stinks on Links.” However, the criticism did not last for long. As soon as DeChambeau posted his heartfelt message following the second round, the fans could do nothing but sympathize.

The community motivates Bryson DeChambeau for the next time

Does Bryson DeChambeau deserve all this love and sympathy after his Open exit?

Have an interesting take?

“You’ll be back King,” said a fan. DeChambeau has been a sensation this season. He has not only won the US Open this season but has also been the runner-up of the PGA Championship and finished T6 at the Masters Tournament. The fans therefore know how DeChambeau can make a comeback next season. Quite sure of their belief in him, they called DeChambeau a King.

Another fan wrote, “I have a feeling your driver is going to be even straighter for next year‘s major championship season. This signals, a repeat at the U.S. Open.” After his first round, the golfer was heard complaining about his 3-wood. According to Golf Digest, he said, “It’s something equipment-related. The golf ball is … look, I’m not at 190 ball speed, so particularly when I’m hitting driver or 3-wood, those clubs are built for around that speed.” Claiming his equipment was about 10 degrees less than the apt number, DeChambeau further mentioned, “I felt like I was swinging it somewhat OK; just the ball wasn’t coming off in that window that I normally see, so it was a weird day.” Hence the fan is expecting DeChambeau to figure out his issues with his equipment and come back stronger the next season. He even boosted his motivation by hinting at how he could easily repeat his US Open glory once more.

One of the fans commented, “Can’t win them all. But you’re going to win a hell of a lot more.” Suggesting one of the most truthful statements, the fan made sure that DeChambeau knew the reality of things. No golfer has been able to win all the events they have played. That’s only natural! However, with that harsh reality, the fan also declared that it does not mean DeChambeau will stop winning. Instead, they said, he will be winning many events that will come his way. In his short PGA Tour career, Dechambeau had already won nine times, including two of his major wins, the 2020 and 2024 US Opens. Thus, one game will not restrict his future glory.

Yet another fan stated, “We all know you’ll grind to learn from this tournament and come back better than ever. Either way, we all follow you because of the content of your character more than all else!” Man of the people, as they call him is truly known for his character. He often engages with fans after his play and posts fun videos on his YouTube that people love.

Someone else suggested, “Get this man in the Olympics.” That’s right, the Paris Games are only 10 days away. But DeChambeau is not representing the USA. The reason is his OWGR ranking since LIV Golf is not covered in the OWGR. The Olympics qualifier only lets the top 4 players on the OWGR list represent their own country, and DeChambeau is not there. The golfer qualified last time for the Tokyo Games, but he could not participate as per the COVID-19 protocols. But the fans still wish DeChambeau would represent the USA in the Olympics.
