The 2024 Hero World Challenge saw the world no. 1 back then doing what he does best; i.e. dominate the course. Scottie Scheffler’s performance last weekend was one to remember. The 2024 Masters Tournament winner didn’t take one wrong step in a flawless final round of the event. With his exhilarating strokeplay, Mr. Inevitable hit 9 birdies and 0 bogeys to retain the title.

Being the third player to win back-to-back Hero World Challenges, Scheffler joined an elite list featuring the host, Tiger Woods, and Viktor Hovland. Interestingly, Hovland gave up his streak to Scottie Scheffler in 2023 after the former had won it in 2021 and 2022.

That’s not the only record Scheffler broke in the last few hours. As Monday came around, Scottie Scheffler also had the 4th longest streak as the no. 1 player in the world. The player he surpassed was golf legend Sir Nick Faldo, who had an 81-week long run as the world no. 1. As Scheffler now stands at 82 weeks, his next target would be Greg Norman who sits at 3rd with 96 weeks at the top.

One would think that it’s an easy climb up to the top 3, right? Well, this is where things actually get tough. The gap between 3rd and 2nd places is a mammoth 168 weeks! Can you guess who has stayed at the No. 1 spot for the second-highest number of weeks?

If you didn’t guess Tiger Woods then do you even follow golf? As confirmed by @GolfDigest on their X account, the GOAT; Tiger Woods was the one who had a humongous 264-week run as the world’s no. 1 golfer from August 1999 to September 2004. For over 5 years, there was no one remotely close to beating Tiger Woods on the OWGR leaderboard. Finally, the man who overthrew him was Fiji legend Vijay Singh.

Vijay Singh had an amazing 2004, winning 9 titles throughout the year before taking Tiger Woods from his spot. As compared to him, Woods only had 1 victory to his name. Singh proudly held the no. 1 rank position from September 2004 till June 2005. However, that came to an end when Tiger Woods’s two major wins in 2005 helped him rise up to the top once again. This time, for an even longer period.

To put things into perspective, if Scottie Scheffler wants to beat Tiger Woods’s record of most consecutive weeks as the world no. 1 player, he will need to stay on the top for 200 more weeks. Yes, Woods’s second run lasted from June 2005 to October 2010, a total of 281 weeks. For Scottie Scheffler to surpass that record, he will have to be the No. 1 player till October 9, 2028.

Scottie Scheffler’s schedule till the last week of March 2025

If we consider all the events Scottie Scheffler has played in 2024, then his schedule next season is packed until March 24, 2025. With no TGL commitments, Scheffler might start the year by participating in The Sentry which begins on January 2, 2025. The American Express played from January 16 and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on January 30 might also be on his list. Moving on to February, we may see Scheffler returning to the WM Phoenix Open and definitely in The 2025 Genesis Invitational.

Before week 97 at the top of the table, Scheffler might also defend the Arnold Palmer Invitational title and The Players Championship. In fact, a day after he defends The 2025 Players Championship, Scheffler will equal Greg Norman’s record and add to his legacy if he is still at the No. 1 spot.
