Fasting to maintain one’s health is not unheard of. However, have you heard of a coffee fast? Well, Phil Mickelson has taken the concept to another level and, in addition, he has his own unique, complicated recipe for the blend.

Why does Mickelson drink coffee?

Phil Mickelson is as well known for sporting a cup of coffee in his hands as he is for his witty retorts. However, he isn’t just addicted, there’s a reason. A couple of years ago, he was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and he repeatedly fell sick. One solution that nutritionists recommended Mickelson was to consume more coffee.

In an interview with Golf Digest, he revealed, “I ended up doing that and continue to do it to this day. I drink coffee all day long and in the last ten years, I have not been sick a single day. So, it has changed my life in that regard and it has helped me control any type of ailments that I may have.”

“The last 10 days I’ve done what I call a hard reset, to change and try to make things better. I have lost 15 pounds. I’ve done a six-day fast with water and a special coffee blend for wellness that I’ve been working on with Dave Phillips, and went on a bit of a retreat.”

What does Phil Mickelson put into his special coffee?

He claims coffee is ‘single-handedly the biggest thing for me’. Here is the full list of ingredients that make this elixir he swears by.

12-16 oz. Ethiopian beans coffee — The specific ones because they are stronger.

Two to three tbsp. MCT or XCT oil — Used to curb the appetite while helping promote fat burning.

A large scoop of flavorless collagen protein powder — for muscle, ligament, and tendon repair

Dash of Himalayan pink sea salt — to help water retention in cells

A small glass of almond milk — preferably the Califia Farms unsweetened vanilla variety

200 mg L-Theanine — in order to create a ‘mental calm without caffeine jitters

One tbsp. Manuka honey — to prevent any allergies.

One tsp. cinnamon — for its well-known anti-inflammatory properties
