Another round of TGL is over, and it was a major hit once again! Or was it? The third match of the indoor simulation golf event concluded a few hours ago. Fans witnessed the team of Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, and Billy Horschel of the Atlanta Drive GC claim victory. That means Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Young of the New York GC lost their 2nd match of the season.
However, it was still a win for Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. TGL continued to show excellent TV ratings, and there seemed to be great viewership traffic for the event. But did the 3rd match have the same hype as the round from the previous week? Fans on X seem to believe that it did not.

Justin Thomas & co. have less fan following
There is no question that Justin Thomas and his fellow pro golfers in the third round were able to draw a crowd. But they didn’t have as big an impact as the second match of TGL. Fans were extremely excited to watch Tiger Woods and the Jupiter Links GC make their debut in the SoFi Center arena. While the match was a one-sided affair against the GOAT’s team, it still drew more fans and much higher TV ratings.
As reported by ESPN, the Jupiter Links GC vs. Los Angeles GC match had 4 million new viewers for the event. The average viewership at any given moment was about 1 million televisions and devices. Interestingly, the total number of viewers rose by 9% from the debut match of TGL. And while the numbers are not in yet, it seems that not as many fans tuned in to the 3rd round as Woods & co. might have expected.
Popular golf news outlet NUCLR GOLF asked the golf community, “🚨⛳️📺 POLL—Did you watch the TGL week 3 match? (ATL vs NY)” on their X account. The poll received over three thousand responses in a few hours. Surprisingly, most of the community chose the option “No,” and they also shared their feedback about it.

Even those who did watch it didn’t have too many positive things to share. It comes as a surprise to many, considering the popularity TGL has gained since its beginning. Let’s see what they had to say about it.

Is TGL losing its charm, or is it just Justin Thomas & Co. failing to excite?

Fans seemed disinterested in the third TGL match
The third match of TGL was still deemed a lot less interesting than the previous round despite being a complete failure. One of the fans said, “I did – it was flat as a pancake, with no maple syrup”. They seemed to suggest that the contest was not as exciting this week. Another had a bit of constructive criticism to share about the match. They said, “Wasn’t an extreme blowout like last time, they didn’t abuse the “hammer” thing, Billy and JT are good on the TV. It’s never gonna be life altering television. But it’s still a pretty enjoyable watch when you watch it on delay and can skip the commercials”. It seems that fans are not feeling as engaged as they should with the TGL product.
One of the followers pointed out that TGL is degrading in quality. They commented, “it’s getting more boring each week & the crowd was pretty quiet”. It seems that TGL has failed to keep up the hype of its matches every week. Another fan probably found it not worthy of their attention as they said, “You guys should do a poll on who watched TGL”. It seems that they are not particularly drawn towards the entire indoor simulation golf setup.

Someone also said “I try, but it is really bad…”, suggesting that they were not impressed with the match. Billy Horschel’s entry into the arena might have felt embarrassing to them.
