David Skinns is back at the RBC Canadian Open with elevated gameplay. The 42-year-old has yet to bag a win on the PGA Tour and he might just do that on the Canadian greens. Skinns is currently on top of the leaderboard, entering the Friday round with a score of 8 under 62. He is one stroke ahead of Sam Burns and Sean O’Hair.

Rory McIlroy, who was in contention at the event at Hamilton Golf & Country Club, finished round 1 with a T6, with five other players with a score of 4-under, 66. While defending champion Nick Taylor dropped down to T95 with a 2-over score. However, with three more rounds remaining, they have a lot of opportunities to take the lead.

Although David Skinns managed to take the lead and there were several other big names on the leaderboard, it was Sam Burns who stole the show. He arrived in Canada without his best form, yet the new father finally seems to have a grip on his game!

Sam Burns becomes the only player to card two Eagles

Sam Burns missed three cuts in the last five tournaments that he had appeared in. However, on Thursday, he started from the 10th tee and opened the round with two birdies on the first three holes. As he reached hole 17, starting with the 10th hole, Burns completely changed the direction of the leaderboard and steered it toward himself with two eagles and a birdie in the next six holes.

Had it not been for the bogey on the third hole, Burns would have tied for the lead with Skinns. The Monday qualifier had rain showers, earlier this week. This led to an increase in the difficulty level of the course. “I think with all the rain we had early in the week the greens are still pretty receptive,” said Burns.

Will he be able to make it to the top of the leaderboard with better weather conditions in round two? Stay tuned to find out!
