The weather has been quite villainous and unforgiving towards the PGA Tour this season. Almost every championship has fallen prey to weather delays and suspensions, be it the Sentry in January or the Wells Fargo Championship earlier this month. The same fate has befallen the much-awaited Monday qualifier of the RBC Canadian Open, not once but twice as severe rainfall pours over the Ontario greens.

In the 156-man field, four spots are up for grabs in the Monday qualifier of the RBC Canadian Open. Scheduled for May 27, at Hamilton Golf & Country Club, Ontario, 100 players were to compete for the four remaining spots. The final four qualifiers would advance to compete at the main championship, scheduled to begin on May 30.

The PGA Tour shared the news of the suspension of the final qualifying round through its official X handle (former Twitter). The tweet consisted of a nine-second video snippet of the Hamilton Golf & Country Club, Ontario, falling prey to heavy rain as the staff members were seen rushing into the club with the players’ golf bags. The round has now been postponed and will resume at 5:40 p.m., according to Eastern Time.

The PGA Tour Communications shared a series of announcements, demonstrating how there have been certain changes in the field for the upcoming championship in the men’s circuit. Four golfers pulled out of the RBC Canadian Open in the last 24 hours and had to be replaced by other pros. Chris Gotterup, Jimmy Stanger, and Andrew Alberston withdrew from the championship at the last moment. Replacing them, Kevin Tway, Henri Norlander, and Kevin Chappell have been reported to enter the field.

Nonetheless, the field is going to be immensely exciting this year. Ryan Palmer and Kelly Kraft have made it to the 156th field through sponsors’ exemptions. Nick Taylor will be returning to defend his title. Rory McIlroy, another past champion of the event, will be vying to clinch the Canadian Open Trophy. The World No. 3 has lifted it twice, first in 2019 and then in 2022. Apart from that, there will be other star players like Shane Lowry, Gary Woodland, Sam Burns, and Adam Scott.
