Scottie Scheffler has had a season of any golfer’s dreams this year. 7 wins on the Tour, a gold medal in Paris, and a hell lot of money. This pretty much sums up his 2024. But do you think all of this would have been possible without his competitive spirit? Oh no, definitely not, and the recent video by golf insiders, Symlie Kaufmann, and Charlie Hulme, is proof of Scheffler’s true competitive nature.
Kaufmann started the story by mentioning an incident that happened at one of the tournaments. All the golfers were headed back to the bus around 10 p.m. with music playing to keep the mood light. They played some drinking games and had a good time, which is nothing out of the ordinary, as per Kaufman. “We come back you know play a couple of drinking games here and there you know nothing nothing out of the ordinary”, said Kaufman.
But after some time, Golden Tate and one of the golfers decided to play pickleball against 5-time PGA Tour Sam Burns and the World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. They played for two hours, with Golden showing off his impressive skills and even using his own custom pickleball paddle. And it seems like Kaufman and Burns were not feeling up to it and said, “Scotty and Sam are like psychotic competitors, right? Like, even I would say Scotty more so than like at that point.”

Scheffler’s competitive nature went to the extent that Kaufman and Burns just wanted to fake getting injured to get out of that situation. “Like Sam and I just picture us as the two guys that just wanted to fake injuries, like we just wanted to go down and, and just, like, you know, crap. You know?” Kaufman continued.

But they kept playing and played seven games. The game ended with no clear winner, and eventually, Burns and Kaufman bowed out. “Sam and I bowed out because we played however many games,” said Kaufman. Kaufmann also said that he believed Scheffler was the best baseball player on the PGA Tour, and he may not be wrong.
Scottie Scheffler’s passion for pickleball
While narrating the story above, Kaufmann was quick to share his thoughts on Scheffler’s baseball game. As per Kaufman, mid-game he started to realize that the world’s No. 1 golfer was the best pickleball player he ever played against. “I started to realize that Scotty may be the best pickleball player on tour and potentially good enough to turn pro. I don’t say that lightly, because he’s the best pickleball player I’ve ever played against,” said Kaufman.

Fans have already witnessed the time Scheffler beat pickleball star Ann Leigh Waters in the Carvana PPA Tour Celebrity Showdown. Even Meredith Scheffler, the golfer’s wife, recently confirmed that her husband Scottie is obsessed with pickleball after competing alongside fellow golfer Jordan Spieth at a Celebrity Pro-Am in Texas earlier this year.
