Patrick Reed has not had the most hassle-free journey with rules over the years. From getting a dreaded two-stroke penalty at the Hero World Challenge, to getting involved in a confusing embedded ball incident at Torrey Pines, his caddy bearing the consequences of the incessant heckling at the 2019 Presidents Cup in Australia, and the confusing situation at the Dubai Desert Classic that led him to say, “some people just love controversy,” Reed has had a share of troubles with rules over the years. But time changes all!

It seems this is exactly what’s happened with the LIV Golf Pro. Unlike what anyone would expect from this Texas-born star’s history with rules, his reaction was pretty sporty when a fan approached him with a copy of the Player’s edition of the ‘Rules of Golf’. This fan was the famous TikToker @cheytown0501, who was well adept with Reed’s history with rules and yet chose to pull a fun incident on the star.

Reed responded with a laugh and signed his copy of the revered golf book. Recalling the incident, he clarified, “I knew what I was doing… I just signed the cover and started laughing with him. Just because at the end of the day, the guy was trying to have fun and some playful banter and I did the same thing.”

Isn’t it quite surprising? After all, Reed’s the same guy who was not fond of controversy to the extent that he clarified the same online following the Dubai Desert Classic event. Well, all this shows is growth, something this LIV Golf pro seems to be taking very seriously. But is Reed the only player who has recently marked his autograph on a bizarre item? Certainly not.

Patrick Reed is not the only golfer who understands the value of a quick laugh around the greens. Giving Reed a close comparison on the LPGA Tour’s side is Charley Hull. Almost a month ago, Hull was spotted ripping cigarette darts while signing autographs for her fans, something her loyal fanbase was quick to note (and follow up on).

Recently, at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, a fan wittingly asked her to sign their cigarette dart. The fan said, “Could you sign my dart?”

To which, she responded, “I don’t how I can do that, but I’ll just put CH.”

A firm believer of never say never, it seems. Hull put her initials on the fan’s dart, instead of getting offended and laughed off the matter, making her all the more loveable among her fanbase. Quite a moment, right?

It seems moving from its more formal approach, the new generation of stars has now embraced the value of a quick laugh around the greens, making the game even more wholesome for spectators!
