Is Chase Koepka's withdrawal from LIV Golf a strategic move or a missed opportunity?

Two ends of the spectrum. That’s how Brooks Koepka and his brother Chase stood last year as the Brooks picked up a second consecutive LIV Golf Jeddah title, while Chase faced one of the worst moments of his career. The then 29-year-old was relegated out of the league after finishing last in the 48-man field, after shooting 6-over par. On top of that, the golfer finished the season 48th in points, with one point—in 13 events, he was 42nd or lower nine times.. Though he took home a total of around $1.76 million in prize money last year, the downfall hurt.

But even in the time of adversity, his brother stood solidly by his side. “I know he’s working hard…I know he’s been trying. We’ve been practicing together quite a bit. Honestly, he’s struggling a little bit. I’ve been there. We’ve all been there. Every golfer has. It’s part of it…You look at it, he was playing mini-tour golf 16 months ago. I don’t think the last year and a half has been too bad for him,” Brooks Koepka said. And exactly a year later, he’s still there as his brother achieves a career-high…

The entire family was present at the University of South Florida for the induction of Chase Koepka into the Hall Of Fame. Yes, just like his brother, Koepka received the award for the Class of 2024. He achieved the feat for his excellence in golf and was a part of a lineup of three other athletes from the university.

Emotional about his brother’s achievement, Brooks Koepka shared an Instagram Story featuring his brother on the stage during the event. The two-time US open champion also shared a short message for his sibling, writing, “Proud of you bro @chasekoepka“. Brooks’ wife, Jena Sims, also shared a few glimpses from the ceremony on social media. One of the pictures showcased the entire list of Hall Of Fame inductees of the Class of 2024 on a standee. She also shared a photo of sitting behind Brooks Koepka and the younger brother’s coach with the caption “Chase’s coach and proud bro supporting 💚“.

Another heartwarming snap featured the couple’s only son, Crew, in an adorable tuxedo, walking around the venue. The University of South Florida’s golf team also congratulated the young golfer on Instagram, writing, “From the fairways to FOREVER!!! Our former superstar, Chase Koepka, was honored this weekend as he took his rightful place into the USF Hall of Fame🏆Congratulations Chase!!! Your legacy will last forever at South Florida!!!”

Notably, Chase was a part of the university from 2012 to 2016, during which he registered four wins in 130 rounds, including 23 top-10 finishes. During the 2012-2013 season, he played in all 11 tournaments during the fall and spring seasons, and finished a season-best second at the BIG EAST Championship, carding a 70-70-69 (209). That year, he also posted seven top 25 and six top-10 finishes. The next year he also became the only first golfer in USF history to average shooting less than par all season, recording a per-round average of 70.9, which was -0.90 less than par. He also recorded 109 birdies, and moved into 10th place on USF’s career birdies list, before collecting his third collegiate individual championship in The Invitational at the Ocean Course in the 2014-2015 season.

In his last year with the university, the golfer captured his program record fourth title at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular, and helped his university make consecutive trips to the NCAA Championships for the first time in history, while leading the Bulls with a 71.4 season scoring average. He also placed third individually and helped his team defend their American Athletic Conference title. Chase was named a Nicklaus Award semifinalist.
