The Presidents of the United States are quite often seen with a golf club in their hand. Golf almost seems like a sort of ritual when it comes to the Presidency. Almost all of them are avid golfers, and they’ve all played with some big names in golf. And it doesn’t get a lot bigger than the golf legend, Jack Nicklaus. The 18-time major winner has played with many golfers in his time and once even announced who among them was the best.

In September 2019, the 73-time PGA Tour champion sat down with David Rubenstein on his show. The two got to talking about the different Presidents the legend had golfed with. Among the names were former Presidents Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton, and Donald Trump. Nicklaus was then asked who among them was the best.

Nicklaus added that the former President played like him. “He plays a little bit like I do,” he said. “He can hit the ball, and he goes out and plays it and just enjoys it.” If being called the best at the sport amongst all the Presidents wasn’t enough, surely the business tycoon will be pleased with having his game being called similar to the golf legend.

But Nicklaus isn’t the only golfer to sing Trump’s games’ praises. Last year, in March 2022, the former President himself appeared on the Full Send podcast. While talking about his golf game, he boasted about how he had earned praise from another golf legend from Nicklaus’ era, Gary Player.
He stated that when Player was asked who the best player among the Presidents was, the South African golf pro replied, “Trump by far.” The former POTUS was, of course, delighted with what he had heard. “Gary Player is a great legendary golfer, as you know, but they asked him that question and he said, ‘Trump,’ ” he stated, beaming with pride.
