After a breakthrough season at the PGA Tour last year, Scottie Scheffler has started this season on the right note. The 26-year-old reclaimed his status as the World’s top-ranked golfer for a limited time and has already opened his account for victories this season. He is also merely two strokes behind the leader at the ongoing Players Championship being played at the TPC Sawgrass. But the reason behind the success has to do with an unusual habit, which he shared recently.
Scottie Scheffler’s curious coffee schedule
In his post-match press conference, the golfer was asked various questions about his day on the course. To add spice to the conversation, Scheffler was asked whether he drank coffee. But the series of answers that were drawn from that moment made for a hilarious story.

Interestingly, the 2022 Masters champion revealed that he drank homemade coffee at home regularly, with the drink becoming a routine. However, he resisted the idea of coffee during tournaments, which surprisingly had no effect on him.
But what made Scheffler eliminate coffee from his tour schedule? When asked whether jitteriness played a factor, the golfer admitted to it. He also disclosed the story of his espresso machine, and how he came to own one.
“I just got an espresso machine and started learning how to use it, and it’s fun… I ordered one on Amazon while I was at St Andrew’s,” he said, before revealing why he made the purchase. “I remember one of the trainers out here used to make coffee all the time, and I had it a few times and he made just fantastic coffee, and so I was like I’m just going to get the same one as Nick and hopefully he’ll teach me how to use it, but he’s on another Tour,” he revealed.
OK this might be the strangest thing I’ve heard on the golf beat. Scottie Scheffler said he drinks coffee *every* morning at home but *never* when he’s playing a tournament. That sounds like clear self sabotage. I have a headache just thinking about it. Clearly works ok for him! pic.twitter.com/bgJBHNvndo

Evidently, the golfer’s secret spread like wildfire online. Here are some of the best reactions.
Probably makes him less jittery for tournament rounds.

Too much coffee makes him jittery and gives him the yips.

Used to do the same before my tennis matches in college. Already too much nervous energy

Good idea to avoid having 3-4 stressful holes on the last part of the front 9 as you sprint for the clubhouse bathroom at the turn

Game is just too easy. Maybe being groggy with a splitting headache will make it challenging.

It’s why he has such good hands. Caffeine discipline

The man must have a very good sense of his bathroom impact

Will Scheffler win the 2023 Players Championship?
The 2022 PGA Tour Player of the Year has been firing on all cylinders in the season so far. He has already tasted success this year after defending his WM Phoenix Open title last month.
But will he be able to win at the Players Championship, one of the PGA Tour’s flagship events? If the previous performances are anything to go by, Scheffler has a decent chance of winning the tournament.

He’s already made a fast start in the competition, scoring 136 in the opening two rounds. At the time of writing, Scheffler remained firmly in second place, two strokes behind the competition leader.
