The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship recently concluded in St Andrews, Scotland. This is one of the richest tournaments on the European Tour with a purse of US $5,000,000 at stake.
However, the St Andrews golf course, also known as the old course, is one that can baffle even the best of golfers. In particular, the 18th hole, if not done right, can seriously pose damage to the overall score.

Guido Migliozzi, an Italian professional golfer who plays on the European Tour, learnt this the hard way. Or he almost did. He drove the ball out of bounds, and for a split second, Migliozzi must have cursed himself.
However, soon he was thanking his stars as the ball took a turn that not only shocked the audience, but surprised Migliozzi as well. Let’s look at what happened.

European Tour: Guido Migliozzi shocks crowd with a lucky bounce shot
The two-time winner on the European tour started the final hole with one goal; to finish in the top-20. However, in an attempt to drive the green as most professionals attempt to do, he swung a little too much to the right.
If you’re not familiar with the layout of the hole, the fairway is exceptionally short, yet wide. Along the right side of the fairway runs the Links road, which is out of bounds.
Fortunately for him, the ball took not one, but three bounces before it finally dropped into the fairway, giving him another chance at the hole.
Despite his blunder, he went on to hit an incredible birdie on the 72nd hole. This resulted in him finishing T-17, with a score of 9-under par.
