The PGA pro entered The American Express Championship and TOC this week in La Quinta, California, and discussed the current situation. He believes the rumors were still in the air because he was not vocal about it. The 30-year-old golfer explained why he was a hot topic of discussion at Kapalua and why rumors flew around. He looks at LIV like any other business. He said, “So, I think that’s probably where it is. Guys, for the most part, seem like they’re pretty polarized on this issue, and I view it as it’s been a competition for top talent, like any other business.”

Talking about the switch to LIV, Cantlay clarified he has no such intention to switch. However, he has been clear about it since the beginning. Therefore, we can now calm down on the rumors of the 2021 FedEx Cup winner joining the rival tour of the PGA. He said, “I have no plans to do that as of now, which has been my stance for, you know, basically since the whole time.”

Even his friend, another South California golfer, Xander Schauffele, was rumored to leave PGA and join the Saudi-backed circuit. However, he also appeared on the ‘No Laying Up’ podcast in November and shut down the speculations. He said that he never paid any attention to pointless LIV rumors. Not to mention that LIV would have hacked the jackpot if the rumors were true about these two joining the Saudi-backed circuit.

What changes did LIV bring to golf?
Since LIV entered the picture, many changes have taken place in the sport. After clarifying the rumors about his switch, Patrick Cantlay also talked about the changes the PGA rival brought to the table. The circuit’s existence has led PGA to increase purses, increasing people’s interest.
He said that people have been trying to bring innovations to the sport. However, he believes that it will be beneficial for the viewers. Increased competition will push people to evolve, and they will start thinking outside the box. Cantlay said, “I think that will be a massive benefit for the viewer because I think now more than ever competition is making people evolve and making people grow and think outside the box.”
