Naming your kid after Brooks Koepka—ultimate tribute or just plain crazy?

At the LIV Golf Greenbrier, there will be a bunch of “Brooks” roaming around—not just Koepka! The interesting reason is that parents idolize the five-time major winner so much that they named their children after him. Coincidentally, the 34-year-old was named after someone too.

Brooks Koepka revealed at the LIV Golf Greenbrier press conference that his father named him after his best friend, Brooks Robinson, and acknowledged that “everybody has somebody that they idolize” and take their name. But how does the father of one feel about parents naming their kid after him?

In a few adjectives, Koepka called it “wild” and “crazy” at the same time, but it was nothing out of the blue. The LIV Golf pro has heard of it many times before. However, he was still honored and said, “It’s pretty cool that somebody would have a kid and think about naming it after me.” Koepka further added that he loved it and thought, “It’s awesome that a bunch of little kids are going to be running around named Brooks.”

Not every golfer gets the privilege to have kids named after them. With this, Koepka joins the likes of Tiger Woods, who had hundreds of babies named after him in 2010—the numbers have probably increased since then. But in honor of this special tribute, what if the five-time major winner creates a community for the “Brooks Babies”? Or wait, what if he is already part of an “Only Brooks” group?

Has Brooks Koepka already made the group?

Seeing parents’ love for the name “Brooks,” a reporter at the LIV Golf Greenbrier press conference opined that he talked with Talor Gooch and suggested a “Brooks Baby Club” for all the parents who have named their kids after the LIV Golf pro. Koepka chuckled and revealed that he was indeed part of a “Brooks community.”

The four-time LIV Golf winner shared that a couple of years ago, probably when the “Josh” named meet was popularized, he started receiving many text messages from people who were named Brooks too. Additionally, he also joined an Instagram group of Brooks, where people follow each other just to have fun.

Have an interesting take?

Although he finds it funny, Koepka shared, “I respond every once in a while” in the group chat despite his busy schedule and usual introverted demeanor. So, there might not be a ‘Brooks Baby Club’ now. But who knows, people may make one of their own after the reporter’s suggestion and add Koepka as the ultimate leader.
