As the Saturday round of the Presidents Cup concluded, the US Team got back in the lead. The score currently is 7-11. However, some of the captain picks came as a rather shock to the golf community. During the Friday Foursomes, when the International Team made a tie by scoring 5-5, Jason Day paired with Christiaan Bezuidenhout was among the groups that 1 upped players from the American team.
They had beaten Brian Harman and Max Homa, ultimately taking the lead. However, despite that, Day was not selected as a part of the Saturday squad. At the post-round presser on Saturday, when the captains were asked to pick players for the Sunday squad, his name was the first that Mike Weir chose, which was once again astonishing. Then why did he not choose him for Saturday?

When the International Team captain was asked about his pick for the entire day, and what led to the decisions that he had made for the pairings. He was also asked if any health concerns with Jason Day made him sit out. To this, he stated that there was nothing wrong with Day health-wise. Just that they went 5-0 on Thursday and had to bring in a lot of momentum.
“We talked it through, and that was it. We had a plan. We had a plan for some other things, too. That’s why we meet and go through these things,” added Captain Weir. He once again assured that there were no health concerns with any of the players on the team.

Day is an exceptional player and undoubtedly a great asset for the International Team. Coming back to the Presidents after five long years, it was Jason Day, who sparked fireworks for the International Team on Friday. And well, it is needless to say that even the commentators were left impressed.

The Australian professional golf played a rather significant role in gaining back momentum for the International team along with Adam Scott. Day carded a clutch shot at the last as an International pair matched history for the biggest margin win ever in the history of the tournament. Although the commentators often talk about how the American team has been dominating the Presidents Cup, it was due to these two players that they showed that the International team too is stirred up.
His exceptional comeback was the first time in all the team formats of the PGA and the LPGA Tour that there have been consecutive clean sweeps. Dan Rapaport, after that, has even reported, “Rumours of the Presidents Cup demise were greatly exaggerated.” What are your thoughts about Day’s performance?
