It has truly never happened that a 5-point lead has vanished in the Presidents Cup in a single session. The largest before was 3, but now the 2024 edition has made history as the International Team won every single match of the Friday foursomes. With much momentum, the International Team started the Saturday round against the USA Team, but it was a bit delayed due to fog. Nonetheless, the game resumed, and the entertainment was too.
And with the evening foursomes and Sunday singles, the Presidents Cup will soon come to an end. In the absence of the biennial event, the Ryder Cup, the Presidents Cup, provides a perfect patriotic event for the fans. But these special events have some perks and uniqueness, unlike the regular stroke play games. So, does the winning team get Official World Golf Rankings points?
Surprisingly, there will not be any points for the winning team. Although the Presidents Cup is sanctioned by the OWGR-eligible tour, the PGA Tour, the world ranking system still does not provide any points as it is a match play event. There have never been any points allotted to the Presidents Cup since it started in 1994, nor to the Ryder Cup, which dates back to 1927.

The players get to represent their countries in front of thousands of fans and once in a while enjoy the team event, which makes them play for something other than themselves or ranking points. Not only the OWGR points but there is one more thing that the winning team does not get at the Presidents Cup.

Is there a prize money at the Presidents Cup?
This is the era of elevated prize purses for many of the PGA Tour events. In the 2024 season, the PGA Tour invested millions in just the signature events, which on average had a prize purse of $20 million. And at the season-ending TOUR Championship, the prize purse was a total of $100 million, where the winner, Scottie Scheffler, received $18 million. So, as the PGA Tour enhanced the prize purse of many events, is there a million-dollar purse even at the Presidents Cup?

As it is a special and patriotic event, there are no monetary benefits for the participating golfers, just as there are no OWGR points. The no-money clause of the Ryder Cup was a controversial topic in 2023, as Patrick Cantlay was accused of going hatless because of it. But at the Presidents Cup, no such instances have happened till now.
But even though the players don’t get the money to keep for themselves, the winning team does get an amount to donate to their selected charities. Since the start of the Presidents Cup in 1994, $56.4m has been raised for 475 charities that are situated in 18 different countries. In 2022, the Presidents Cup raised around $2 million in donations, and most of it went to local charities near Quail Hollow. This year as well, the same procedure would be followed. But the winning team will get the golden, coveted cup to celebrate with until the next Presidents Cup starts.
