With Scheffler on hiatus, which Team USA star will step up at the Procore Championship?

In just six days, the FedExCup Fall season of the PGA Tour will begin. And after a hectic season, many top pros will either go off to spend time with family or play elsewhere. Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are like no other as they take the time off before the 2024 President Cup starts. The world no. 1 revealed that he would be spending more time with his newborn baby and wife after winning the TOUR Championship.

And Schauffele might be doing the same as both needed a much-needed break from all the on-course stress before the President Cup starts. However, not everyone from the President Cup’s Team USA will have a short break from the on-course shenanigans. Three players from the 12-man roster have decided to grace the Napa greens and play the first FedExCup Fall event, the Procore Championship.

1. Sahith Theegala

The one-time PGA Tour winner was only six strokes closer to winning the TOUR Championship, but his teammate, Scottie Scheffler, took that title, too. Sahith Theegala finished third in the season’s final, but if he had not self-reported an infarction at the East Lake Golf Course, he would’ve been a runner-up.

Theegala’s 2024 season has been a rollercoaster ride with some good and many ordinary finishes raking up. Coming at the Procore Championship, the 26-year-old would hope to win as the defending champion and turn his overall PGA Tour wins from one to two.

2. Wyndham Clark

Have an interesting take?

The year started with Wyndham Clark winning the weather-shortened AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but soon the 2023 US Open winner lost the track a bit. In the middle of the season, Clark was trying to play better as he missed two consecutive cuts and was T56 at his title defense. But a T9 finish at the Travelers Championship catapulted him into a better form.

In the next six starts, the 3-time PGA Tour winner finished in the top 15 including being 8th at the TOUR Championship and an exception of a missed cut at The Open. The Procore Championship will be another event where Clark will hope to continue his Top-15 streak and prepare for the President Cup too.

3. Max Homa

The 2024 season was one of the worst years for Max Homa. The 33-year-old could not rake up any runner-up finishes and except for a T3 at the Masters, the 6-time PGA Tour winner was out of form in all other three majors and even missed the US Open cut. Even in the FedExCup Playoffs, Homa finished 70th at the FedExCup St. Jude Championship and was T33 at the BMW Championship.

His deplorable performances were the reasons why he became one of the two players (the other was Brian Harman) from the President Cup’s Team USA to miss the TOUR Championship. Although Homa has struggled in the past few weeks, a diluted field at the Procore Championship will help him to get a hold of his form before the President Cup.

Joining the three from Team USA, the captain of the International Team, Mike Weir with his comrades, Corey Connors, Mackenzie Hughes, and Min Woo Lee are also in the field of the Procore Championship. It remains to be seen who will dominate the Silverado Resort North Course from the two teams and take home the shining laurel.
