Lexi Thompson has already played her last competitive round for this year. It didn’t end the way she and her fans had hoped. Nevertheless, the CME Group Tour Championship wasn’t the final goodbye. This year, and for next year too. Fans will witness her teeing up with Rickie Fowler at Grant Thornton Invitational from December 13-15. And for the coming season, she has also mentioned a few tournaments are definitely on the cards for next year.

Like I said before when I made the announcement, it’s just from full-time golf. I may tie it up a few times next year. A matter of when and what tournaments I don’t know,” Thompson reiterated her stance last week. While there is no certainty on the name and number of tournaments, here are a few of them we believe she would play.

Lexi Thompson to play LPGA Majors?

Lexi Thompson is likely to play all four majors in her schedule. Four, because she has traditionally skipped the Amundi Evian Championship after that controversial post a few years back. She severely criticized the courses in an Instagram post in 2019 but later deleted it. Nevertheless, we expect the 11-time LPGA Tour winner to be in the US Women’s Open field as almost a certainty. That’s where everything started.

Moreover, it’s not too much to expect that Lexi Thompson wants to add at least one more major to her resume that looks strangely incomplete with only one. So, we are expecting the 29-year-old to tee off in all the majors except for the one by Evian-les-Bains.

Why this one? Well, for one, it’s in Florida. Secondly, it’s LPGA’s flagship tournament that honors one of the Tour’s foremost icons. This year, Brittany Lincicome received a sponsor’s exemption into the tournament. Should Lexi Thompson get an invitation, the South Florida resident is unlikely to let go of the opportunity to tee off at Pelican Golf Club. She has never missed this stop in the last few years, netting a solo second in 2022.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Lexi Thompson's mixed-gender event participation a game-changer for women's golf?

Have an interesting take?

Grant Thornton Invitational

Don’t be surprised if Lexi Thompson becomes a mainstay in the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour’s only mixed-gender event every year. We are expecting that in a few years, the Tiburon Golf Club event will also attract a few bigwigs from the men’s side. You know the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Rory McIlroy. Thompson can very well be a part of the picture. She will tee off this year, of course.

All in all, there are a couple of events where the golf world will get a glimpse of the one-time major winner. Dare we say, should TGL bring LPGA pros into the equation, as commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan revealed, Thompson can be a part of the Jupiter Links Golf Club’s women’s wing, representing Florida. Or even tee off with the men if TGL wants to take a mixed-gender route. Although that’s still in the planning, evidently, many doors are open for Lexi Thompson.
