Despite his struggles, why do fans still believe in Tiger Woods for The Open?

I hope people remember Tiger as Tiger was, the passion and the charismatic aura around him.” This is what Colin Montgomerie said about Tiger Woods in an interview with the Times, hinting that he’s not the right fit in the field of 157 players of the Open Championship. The Scottish pro even criticized the 48-year-old for his struggling performance at Pinehurst No.2 earlier this year. However, the GOAT’s fans always come to his aid as they did this time.

Montgomerie further tried to elaborate that it is best if the 82-time PGA winner just calls it quits as according to him, Woods is tarnishing his strong-build legacy. This, however, did not have any negative impact on Tiger’s popularity. On the contrary, Woods is expected to shine at the 2024 Open Championship.

Despite the snub that the 3-time Open Championship winner got from the Scotsman, Tiger Woods has emerged as one of the fan favorites in the Open Championship. However, there’s a twist to all of it! In a post shared by Golfbet on its official Instagram account, Tiger’s not-so-great odds were revealed.

Seeing these odds of the former world number one, it appears that despite Woods’s 2024 performances before the Open Championship where he performed poorly, fans still believe that the GOAT will be claiming another major to his name. Talking about his 2024 performances, Woods missed cuts in the US Open and the PGA Championship. In the Masters Tournaments, he did make the cut but finished at T60. Moreover, he withdrew from the only non-major event he played in 2024 (the Genesis Invitational) due to influenza.

Despite everything that Tiger Woods has been through, his fans are still standing by his side. But how exactly did the web users express their affection towards the 82-time PGA Tour winner?

Tiger is no stranger to injuries. He encountered many injuries during his young years and has always prevailed on the greens with the injuries. In 2008, he tore his Achilles tendon, and this injury resurfaced multiple times during 2009. This injury led him to end his season after that year’s US Open. After the 2008 US Open win, Woods had to wait for a decade for his last major win in 2019 (the Masters Tournament), mostly owing to his injuries. Moreover, Woods’s 2021 car crash caused him some deadly injuries that worsened his play. Being sympathetic towards the 48-year-old, a user commented, “I wish he didn’t have his injuries.”
