The PNC Championship, previously known as the Father/Son Challenge, offers a unique golf experience. It features 20 major champions and their family members playing together in a two-person scramble format. The event has seen some of the most iconic names in golf history, such as John Daly, Annika Sorenstam, and Tiger Woods, team up with their parents or children to compete for the Willie Park Trophy.

To participate in this event all professional players must have won a Major tournament to be eligible for the event. But, the question is, is the PNC Championship a PGA Tour event? However, the answer is not as simple as it may be. Let’s take a closer look to understand!

Is the PNC Championship a PGA Tour Event?

In professional golf, the PGA TOUR stands as a prestigious tournament organization. And, being a part of this is one of the greatest achievements for golfers. However, it is not an easy feat, it’s like climbing a ladder where players move up or down based on their performance in sanctioned events. The PNC Championship is not an official PGA Tour event, meaning that it does not count towards the PGA Tour’s season-long points race, the FedEx Cup, or the official money list. 

However, the PNC Championship is sanctioned by the PGA Tour Champions, which is run by PGA America. This means that the PNC Championship follows the PGA Tour Champions’ rules and regulations, and the participants are mostly PGA Tour Champions members who have won a major championship or the Players Championship on the PGA Tour.  

The tournament is also broadcast by NBC Sports, which is one of the PGA Tour’s media partners. Despite not being a PGA Tour the tournament attracts a lot of attention from fans and media. Especially when it features some of the famous players of the PGA Tour, such as Tiger Woods and Nelly Korda, playing with their fathers or siblings. The PNC Championship also benefits from the PGA Tour’s marketing and promotion and is often featured on the PGA Tour’s website and social media platforms.

Therefore, the PNC Championship is not a PGA Tour event, but it is closely associated with the PGA Tour and its senior circuit, the PGA Tour Champions. The event is not just a golf tournament, it is a family affair.
