There is no doubt that throughout the years of its existence, the PNC Championship has been one of the flagship events on the golf calendar. With many famous professional golfers throughout the decades partaking in its glory, one would expect that the list of its previous year’s winners would be reflective of a beautiful confluence of both the worlds of the LPGA Tour and the PGA Tour.

However, a thorough search through the history charted by the Father-Son event reveals something rather disheartening. In its almost three decades of existence, has the PNC Championship ever had a woman win its title?

As the date of its 2023 season draws closer, the golf world has already started making guesses as to who will win this year’s championship. However, sadly for the fans, no data backs their support of a female golfer winning the prestigious event.

Yes, you heard it right. No woman has ever won the PNC Championship in the 28 years of its existence. In fact, the first woman to ever participate in the previously known father-son championship was Annika Sörenstam in the 2019 Tournament, where she participated with her father, Tom Sörenstam, and finished tied for 19th place.

Ever since Sörenstam’s iconic feat, even though no woman has been able to win the PNC Bank-sponsored event, they have surely represented a small share of the twenty teams that play in the tournament. Sörenstam was the only representation on the women’s side until 2021 when Nelly Korda also stepped up to take part in the previously male-dominated tournament.

Even though in the last few years women have participated in the PNC Championship, they have not been able to finish in the top three. However, Nelly Korda did manage to finish tied for the fifth position last year. This was the highest finish a woman has ever been able to achieve in this now-mixed-format event. The same year, Sörenstam finished tied for 17th place. Considering all that has taken place, do you think this year’s PNC Championship will be any different?

Are there any female participants in the event’s field in 2023?

Nelly Korda and Annika Sörenstam’s attempt to strive for success at the PNC Championship does not seem to have run its course just yet. These two LPGA sensations will be seen partaking in the 2023 PNC Championship.

While Korda will be participating with her father, the retired Czech professional tennis player Petr Korda, Sörenstam will be seen with her 12-year-old son Will McGee. It is possible that either of the duos will break the long curse and win the title. Only time will tell if this year’s PNC Championship will see a woman lift the unique Willie Park trophy or not.
