As big names of the golf world gear up for the tournament, LPGA Tour pro Leona Maguire, is also all geared up for a win. The 28 year old has a total of 4 professional wins. In the last couple of years, she has exhibited excellent performances during major tournaments.
Although she hasn’t won a major yet, but she has made her place in the top 10 in three of the majors, the starting point for which was the Evian Championship. In 2021, she finished on T6, and since then shares a special bond with the event.
Ahead of this year’s event, Maguire has praised the field and its attractive features, “The course is in the best shape it’s been in a few years. It’s very green, it’s very lush.” Speaking about her love for the event, Maguire said, “This is always a tournament I love coming back to every year, the greens are a little softer than normal so I think probably trying to play pretty aggressive out there tomorrow and try and shoot a low one to start off the week.”
This week Maguire is among the top contenders to take the trophy home. Her performance at the Women’s PGA Championship makes her one of the most sought-after players at Evian.
Maguire finds Evian golf course better than other major venues
Having played in numerous tournaments since childhood, Maguire expressed a liking for the structure of Evian Resort where the event will be held.“Lots of fairways, lots of greens. The same as every major. There’s a few more birdie opportunities here than at a U.S. Open or at Baltusrol,” she added.

The LPGA pro has crafted a strategy ahead of the event on how to operate. She continued, “So as I said, a little more aggressive, take advantage of the par-5s and some of the shorter holes, but the par-3s are always tough here – par on all the par-3s is good this week.”
With a game plan already set in motion, Maguire will definitely aim to achieve her first major title at the event. For her opening round, she will be playing along with Danielle Kang and Yuka Saso. Do you think Maguire as a chance at a win at Evian?
