‘Play It As It Lies’: PGA Tour Pro’s Bizarre Fan Encounter at $20 Million Event Leaves the Golf Community in Hysterics

Golf is a serious game that must be played with care and concentration. But sometimes such unusual incidents happen on the green that even the most serious golfers couldn’t contain their smiles. In the tournament having a prize purse of $20 million, where Jon Rahm & Jordan Spieth have been battling in wholesome challenges, the golf community has more content making them hit hysteria.

In the same manner, something quirky happened on the first day of the much anticipated FedEx playoffs, the St Jude Championship. At the event, PGA Tour Pro Hideki Matsuyama made such a shot that not only landed in a very funny spot but also made the fans fall with laughter.

The Japanese golfer is on a hot streak this year. After stellar performances at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and the Open Championship, Matsuyama is once again ready to exhibit his amazing golfing skills at the St. Jude Championship.

However, during the first round which has already started something unexpectedly hilarious happened that even made the golfer who is otherwise always serious, crack a smile. While putting on the green, Matsuyama made a big hit and the ball went far away. But it ended up landing in a very unusual place i.e., under a spectator’s shirt.

The man continued to stand where he was until Hideki approached him and said “You” and everyone around started laughing. Finally, the man dropped the ball from under his clothes which Hideki picked up. He even showed a kind gesture and gave back the ball after signing it to the man. A video of this incident was shared by the PGA Tour on their Instagram page.

Meanwhile, this fan also wanted a ball signed by him “I need a signed srixon ball also!”

This fan had a good look at the entire shot and explained it well. “The cameras didn’t pick it up but the ball actually hit Pork Roll the Wifflemander first and then bounced up into the guy’s shirt. Luckily Pork Roll is OK but he too would love an autographed ball from Hideki”

This fan was in awe of the speed with which Hideki launched the ball “That speed though”

Well, the fans sure were left amused after this funny incident. Nevertheless, the St Jude Championship begins today at the TPC Southwind Course and Matsuyama seems to maintain a good lead in the first round. The event will host its final round on Sunday.
