Flushing it came up with a staggering statistic regarding the PGA Tour’s merger with the European Tour. As a result of the merger, the share of the PGA Tour increased from 15% to 40% in the European Tour. In exchange for the increase in the share, the PGA Tour reportedly gave £120 million to the DP World Tour.

The two leagues committed to a coordinated global schedule and more joint events as well. The prize money for the events also increased drastically after the merger. But this merger stands beneficial for some players more than the others.
As mentioned in Today’s Golfer, after the alliance, DP World Tour Chief, Keith Pelley spoke, “We are a vibrant, independent, strong tour with incredible tournaments. There is one component of our new deal, which is a massive component for our players to be able to get access to the PGA Tour, the world’s greatest and largest tour. But it’s one component of it.”
Many players such as Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter have withdrawn their membership from the European Tour as well after losing the legal battle against the Tour. After winning the battle, the European Tour could fine their golfers £100,000 for each LIV event they competed in.
On the other hand, LIV Golf has invested $300 million in the Asian Tour. The investment from the Saudi league will cover prize money and playing opportunities in the international series for the upcoming 10 years. The LIV Golf’s investment move was a result of its aim to expand its global outreach.
Comparing the aftermath of both investments, Flushing It, posted a tweet. “The European Tour made a massive mistake not partnering with LIV,” said the Twitter account concluding its post.
The European Tour board sold a stake to the PGA Tour for a reported 120 million, that has helped to ‘guarantee purses’. In return, they’re losing talent each year, have made it untenable for European legends to continue membership and have weakened their product significantly.…

The post shared by the social media account grabbed a lot of attention from the golf world. Many fans seemed to be in agreement, and on the contrary, some fans found the comparison to be absolutely absurd.
Fans react to the Flushing It’s verdict on the merger
Fans from both sides tried to give in their inputs and reason out this inference. Taking a dig at the European Tour, a fan commented:
The European Tour is stuffed. It’ll be a bunch of no names playing soon.

Another fan left a frustrating comment and said,
So frustrating watching the European Tour falling apart while totally abandoning some it’s most loyal members (ex members).

One fan took a stand for the LIV Tour and commented,
Yeah man LIV invested in the Asian Tour out of the goodness of their hearts and pure love of the game

Many fans came to the European Tour’s defense and posted many comments. One fan posted about how the European Tour was already weak.
The DP tour was weak long before LIV came along. This narrative that this is new is plain nonsense.
— Elliot Shaw (@ElliotAPLYiD) May 12, 2023
Nonsense, the best have always headed to America, think your issue is that unlike in the past, there's very few UK based players at the top in Europe like there used to be, so you think the product "lesser", it's not, it's just different
LIV is exhibition rubbish, nobody cares

I dont think the LIV tour has affected the European Legends. That tour not impacted at all.
