LIV Golf, since its inception, has been on the verge of submerging with its inefficiency in generating revenue. In early 2024 and 2025, the league saw a shift with new partnership deals, including TV deals with Fox Sports, ITV, and an extension with Channel Seven.
Well, this might sound like a dream start, but in reality, the damage that has been done is unrecoverable. Recently, LIV has shared the operating losses which grew from $244 million in 2022 to $394 million in 2023. The growth in the opposite direction is definitely not the aim of LIV Golf.
Even the news was shocking for the panel of the No Laying Up podcast, which included Tron Carter, DJ Pie, and Big Randy, the panel had a quick chat about the numbers, throwing in some cool insights from the past. Then, Pie announced—PIF has invested nearly $5 billion into LIV! Yup, you heard that right, billion. After that, he straight-up asked how the league plans to make that huge investment back.

Further, Carter joined laughingly, saying, “That’s such an absurd amount of money to spend on not even the best golfers like it’s a few of the best, but it’s not all the best.” Similar to this, even Brandel Chamblee also pointed out the fact that the performance of LIV Golfers is substantially lower than the PGA Tour professionals at the majors.
Continuing the discussion ahead, Randy pulled out the amount of loss LIV incurred in 2023 and shared how it made him upset. It raised a question as he asked, “I don’t see the road map to making golf this hugely profitable global thing.” Further, he said how the money could have been invested into making a golf course or giving away a membership to people instead of investing it in a league that just proves the love for golf.
He even voiced out, “God this seems like a Titanic waste of fu—ng money, energy, time, and resources.” Carter even pulled out numbers from the total assets of PIF, which is 976 billion, out of which the league has spent 0.5% on “like a non-functioning golf league.”
While the amount of money spent on the league is huge, despite that the new CEO has some controversial comparison with Majors.

Scott O’Neil Comparison of LIV Golf with Majors
The staggering losses for the league are something that brings worry. Throwing in billions but only getting a tiny slice back won’t work. LIV’s broadcast rights brought in $3 million in 2023, while PGA’s getting $800 million a year. Do they want to show up to a buffet with a cracker and call it a meal?
So, for the new CEO, Scott O’Neil, the league is considerably bigger. During a recent interview at the LIV Golf Adelaide event, he said, “I don’t only think it’s our 13 other events that need to be measured against this. It’s every golf tournament in the world.” After the clear remarks on the comparison with other leagues. He then jumped on to praise the PIF league with comparison to the majors.

He stated, “Outside of the majors, if you want to see the best players in the world, there’s only one place to see it, and that’s at LIV.” The comparison after the numbers shared by the league isn’t justifiable for the golf world and even the repercussions of it can be witnessed earlier when the statement was shared on social media. Brandel Chamblee and Kyle Porter were the first to disagree and share historical archives against it.
The data that has surfaced has become a huge worry, which practically with the current roadmap isn’t going to observe any revival. What are your thoughts on it? Share it with us in the comments section below.
