At 51, Phil Mickelson shows no signs of slowing down, continuing to rewrite history with each swing. After becoming the oldest Major champion at 50 with his remarkable win at the 2021 US PGA Championship, Mickelson recently added another milestone to his legendary career. He became just the second player, alongside Jack Nicklaus, to win four of his first six starts on the Champions Tour, with his latest victory coming at the season-ending Charles Schwab Championship.
But what’s in Mickelson’s bag that’s helping him keep up with the younger crowd? We caught up with Mickelson’s club-builder, Gerritt Pon, who works out of the Ely Callaway Performance Centre, to get an idea of equipment that’s powering the six-time Major champion’s incredible run.
Even at the age of 51, Phil Mickelson ranks 55th in driving distance with an average of 273.3 yards per drive. He has been able to achieve this feat with the Callaway Epic Speed Triple Diamond driver (6º set to 5.5º) which he uses with the Fujikura Ventus Black 6 X shaft (47.9 inches). Typically priced between $189.99 to $253.99, you can get hold of these between $151.99 to $203.19 currently on the official website.
