Why did Phil Mickelson switch to LIV Golf?
Unlike other players who joined LIV Golf for the money, Mickelson had two special reasons to switch to the new league. According to Mickelson, LIV Golf has been focusing on two major aspects that are necessary for the growth of golf. And on the other hand, the PGA Tour lacks in doing so as per Lefty.
Mickelson said, “The reason why I’m so high on LIV Golf is it addresses the two areas that for the 30 years I’ve played the Tour, they have tried and struggled,”. The first reason Mickelson gave was that LIV Golf had a chance to take professional golf to a global level. He said, “I think that’s a really big thing as we try to grow the game of golf throughout the world…globally I think that’s going to be a big impact.”

The other reason that Mickelson gave was that LIV Golf was targeting the younger generation of viewers through its new schedules and game formats. According to Mickelson, LIV Golf’s new shotgun start format has given the viewers a “four-and-a-half-hour window” between the game. While in the PGA Tour tournaments, the viewers had to watch golf all day long according to the golf legend. He also said that there are going to be no commercials between shots and the viewers will be able to watch a break-free entertaining game.

Many players still wanted to play in PGA Tour events after joining LIV Golf. But as per Jay Monahan’s suspension, no players were allowed to return to the PGA Tour. However, Mickelson once had a simple solution to the problem. “The best solution is for us to come together,” Mickelson said. He said that while PGA Tour had a traditional side of the game, LIV Golf had brought a “cool, updated feel” to the sport. But the chances of a merger are null with the neverending banter between the two tours.
