LIV Golf got another first-time winner in Abraham Ancer last week. Joaquin Niemann has won twice this season from four outings. Jon Rahm has maintained a consistent top-10 in the breakaway league so far. Even Anthony Kim showed some glimpses of what made him the ‘next Tiger Woods‘ on Tour. But Brandel Chamblee scoffs.

The NBC analyst speaking from TPC Sawgrass brushed aside all the concerns that the Tour might rue the LIV Golfers’ exclusion in the long term. Contrarily, the veteran commentator believes LIV Golf stars only have a few years of fuel left in them. Chamblee has been in a war of words with Phil Mickelson before for his diatribe against LIV Golf and what he said this time might cause another furor.

Brandel Chamblee believes the Tour has been creating its own stars, while a majority of stars on LIV Golf will not be at their best in the next three to four years. This year, the Tour got a new first-time winner as Matthieu Pavon clinched the Farmers Insurance Open title. Moreover, Nick Dunlap became the first amateur to win on Tour since Phil Mickelson’s 1991 Northern Telecom triumph.

Rising stars like Sahith Theegala (T6 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational), Will Zalatoris (T4 at API), and Wyndham Clark (2nd at API) have also stepped up. Chamblee has earlier said that the depth of the field is deeper than before. Chamblee reads this as a sign of better times to come.

The PGA Tour has a feeder system, a direct line to creating stars and just this year we’ve began to see them create new stars… The fact that LIV has bought a few players, It’s a place in time. Those players will not have that game in three or four more years. Meanwhile, the PGA Tour stars will carry on developing superstars,” the 61-year-old analyst said from TPC Sawgrass where he would be in the booth alongside PGA Tour Pro, Kevin Kisner.

Since LIV’s inception, Chamblee has remained steadfast in his vitriol against the PIF-funded league. Most recently, the NBC analyst was engaged in a verbal spat on X (formerly Twitter) slamming LIV Golfers’ demand for world ranking points. Furthermore, criticizing Jon Rahm, Chamblee said, “It was more convenient for him to do this. It’s also clear that he sold his career out.” However, players seem to divert from Chamblee’s sentiments.

What do players think about the current scenario?

Rory McIlroy sparked a debate after claiming that the Tour should have the LIV Golfers back in the fold. without any punishment. While Scottie Scheffler and Rickie Fowler countered that, no one has denied the talent pool on the PIF-funded side. In fact, Viktor Hovland, too accepted that the Tour is ‘weakened’ by LIV Golfers’ absence. Whereas, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele admitted that OWGR needs to go through some changes and doesn’t accurately reflect the current top players.

Interestingly, in recent times, Greg Norman has brought in rising stars like Adrian Meronk in addition to established names like Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and Lucas Glover. David Puig was the first star amateur to join the breakaway league, while this year, Caleb Surratt joined the fray. The LIV CEO’s audacious OWGR move has got many believing that LIV Golf has doubled down on its product and is here for the long term. But it clearly hasn’t convinced Brandel Chamblee.
