A couple of years ago, the PGA Tour allowed players to wear shorts on their swing in Mexico and Puerto Rico. As a result, pictures of Phil Mickelson’s calves went viral on social media.
Subsequently, Phil has been renowned for his muscly calves and this craze, in two years, has not died down one bit. Earlier this year, he posted a hilarious video as an ad and wrote, “After winning “Best Calves” for the 22nd straight year from the WCC (World Calve Committee).”

Recently, this topic resurfaced after Phil was tagged in another golfer’s calf picture.

Phil Mickelson bids goodbye to calf race
Yesterday, Shane Bacon posted a picture of Gary Woodland from Mark Blackburn’s Instagram story. Chasing a retort by Lefty, he wrote, “Gary Woodland going for podium position in the best calves in golf category @PhilMickelson take notice.”
Btw. Gary hits 💣‘s too 😉

While Mickelson is not one to miss a bait, he surprisingly, instead of engaging in friendly banter like he usually does, replied, “Btw. Gary hits [bombs] too,” in a way signifying that the two are correlated.

However, Phil is right about him. Woodland, the 2019 U.S. Open champion, ranks 22nd on the list of the drive distances with a distance of 313 yards. Mickelson, meanwhile, ranks 187th on that list with a drive distance of 288.8 yards.
Notably, the comment section was a mixed bag of interesting things. One pointed out that between the two, they have a career grand slam. Another wrote, “I was at the Wishbone Brawl at Goat Hill. First time I saw @fredcouplesgolf in shorts. Dude has ginormous calves.”
