Phil Mickelson and Justin Thomas have always shared a special bond. Both the professionals have played with each other during various events and have often seemed to love the company. Recently, Justin shared a story about the first time he played with the six-time major championship winner and we promise you’ll leave amazed.

Justin Thomas on playing with Phil Mickelson for the first time

In an epic blast from the past, Phil and Justin once sat down in a locker room, where Thomas spoke about the first time he played with Mickelson. Justin spoke about playing with a Phil in a video, which Phil uploaded on his Twitter account back in 2019. The story will prove that Phil is probably one of the funniest professionals on the PGA Tour.

Justin said, “It was the 2014 US Open at Pinehurst I was on the web.com now the Korn Ferry… we had little match myself and Jordan versus you and Ricky and kind of just came right into the lion’s den and playing the fourth hole… I decided to putt it and hit a nice putt up there about like this far, you go after me bones at the time look right at him you just grabbed the 64 took a full swing just took a full Earth bunker divot all over the green straight up in the air pop down about like this just a little outside of mine.”

He added, “We knew each other but weren’t quite as close to the are now but I know that you’d like to talk smack and I was like ‘nice shot Phil just a little bit outside of mine,’ without that and you just look at me you go, ‘yeah my dad probably would have putt that one too.’ And then just walked.”

2014 US Open winner

On the business end, Martin Kaymer won the 2014 US Open at Pinehurst. He won the event with an overall score of nine-under-par, as a result, won with an eight-shot advantage. Martin carded a final round of 69, one-under-par. Phil finished the event at tied 28th position with a score of seven-over-par.
